We are located between the northern and southern hemispheres of America, on the Central American isthmus. In other words, we were (and are) a natural bridge of animals and plants. In addition, we enjoy two coasts: In the East the Caribbean Sea and in the West the Pacific Ocean. Also, we have three main mountain ranges: Cordillera de Guanacaste, Cordillera Volcánica Central, and Cordillera de Talamanca. All these characteristics allow us to live with the natural wealth that we love.
According to an article from Embassy of Costa Rica in Washington, “Costa Rica accounts for only 0.03 percent of the earth’s surface (has only 51.100km2). However it contains nearly 6 percent of the world’s biodiversity.”
Costa Rica is an independent and democratic country.
In addition to our natural wealth, we enjoy being an independent and democratic country. This year 2021 we celebrated 200 years of Independence. In addition, December 1st. is the Day of the Abolition of our army, a fact that occurred in 1948. These events were (and are) fundamental for the development of the country itself and teachers that give us our idiosyncrasies. We are peaceful and friendly people.
Our oficial language is Spanish.
Our language is also a factor to take into account. Our official language is Spanish, and you can choose among different options to learn it. Our rhythm is appreciated by people who speak other languages, and as in your own language, we have interesting traditional words such as:
